The Future of Fuel is Hydrogen

The story for methanol as the hydrogen carrier

Corporations are placing additional emphasis on Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) issues to support business operations. A large developing market segment that will aid a corporation in meeting its ESG goals is the interest in low-carbon fuels, especially for heavy haul industries. Hydrogen fuel innovations offer a promising solution.

1 — GHG Reduction

Hydrogen fuel produced from bio-methanol has been shown to reduce GHG emissions by greater than 69% compared to gasoline, 45% compared to diesel, and 25% compared to conventional hydrogen sources.

2 — Distribution Solved

Methanol is readily transported today and bypasses the need for high-pressure Hydrogen tube trailers. This improves transportation efficiency, reduces GHG from transportation and shifts to bio-methanol as the hydrogen carrier: an already readily available, widely transported fuel.

3 — Reliability

Hydrogen generated on-site reduces reliance on off-site hydrogen suppliers, network outages, and other supply problems. This encourages adoption greatly, offering companies a solution today that makes a significant impact in reducing their carbon footprint. You are in control of the hydrogen fuel supply your business needs.

4 — Scalability

There is demand in a number of jurisdictions to support the development of this technology which can then be exported nationally and across North America. This furthers the demand for Hydrogen equipment and the supporting applications, expediting the energy transition.

5 — Reliable Supply

Local hydrogen generation can supply hydrogen to its own dispensing equipment and to “neighborhood” fuelling stations, reducing the reliance on imported hydrogen from non-local suppliers. One tanker of methanol supplies 3000 kg of Hydrogen.

We believe in a future where energy is sustainable and circular.

Our Biodrome Technology uses a blend of bio-methanol and de-ionized water to generate fuel-cell spec hydrogen.

The Biodrome performs catalytic reformation of a bio-methanol/water blend to produce low GHG hydrogen on-site where it is needed

Currently-available bio-methanol results in full lifecycle GHG reductions of >40% as compared to diesel and >69% as compared to gasoline.  There are GHG reductions of >21% as compared to grey hydrogen.

The pathway to ZERO emissions uses negative carbon intensity feedstocks, such as renewable natural gas (RNG)

Since methanol is the feed stock, the fueling stations can readily provide fuel to both hydrogen-powered and methanol-powered vehicles.

Biodrome hydrogen generation can supply hydrogen to its own dispensing equipment and to “neighborhood” fueling stations, reducing the reliance on imported hydrogen from out of state.

Methanol as the hydrogen carrier is more easily transported, stored and handled than high pressure hydrogen or ammonia.
